Reconciliation is a bold, minimalist monoprint made from vintage letterpress type—where fragments of language are pressed together into a unified field.
A dense rectangle of rich cobalt blue fills the center of the paper, built from hundreds of individual type pieces arranged in vertical bands and irregular blocks. From a distance, the composition reads like a single solid form—confident, stable, and resolved. But up close, the surface reveals its true nature: a patchwork of tiny differences, seams, and interruptions. Thin white channels and small breaks in the ink cut through the structure like pauses, repairs, or sutures—evidence of the work’s assembly and the individuality of each component.
The title Reconciliation gives the image its emotional charge. The piece feels like an act of bringing disparate parts into alignment—separate fragments pressed into cooperation. It suggests integration after division: a joining, a settling, a renewed order that doesn’t erase the past, but holds it together.
With its saturated color and grid-like texture, the print balances restraint and intensity—a quiet statement about unity, repair, and the beauty of things held together under pressure.
