Gut Punch is an abstract monoprint made from vintage letterpress type—an image that feels physical, tense, and abruptly emotional.
A dense mass of deep green impressions forms an irregular block across the paper, like a compressed terrain or shattered document. The type pieces create a rigid internal structure—stacked, layered, and tightly packed—but the overall shape feels unstable, as if it has been struck and shifted out of alignment. The edges crumble and scatter, and the interior seems to buckle, with thin channels of negative space cutting through like cracks in a system.
The title Gut Punch turns the composition into an embodied experience: sudden impact, the breath knocked out, order interrupted. What was once language—meant to communicate and persuade—becomes a silent record of pressure and collision. It suggests the moment when something hits too close, when meaning collapses into sensation before the mind can frame it.
Minimal, raw, and visceral, the print captures that split-second feeling of being rattled: not loud, but undeniable—an abstract bruise made of type, ink, and force.
